TGIF Challenge - Tough Day Turtle Card #TGIFC301

 Howdy all,

Welcome to my Friday Fun blog post as part of TGIF Challenges #TGIFC301 Blog Hop.

The TGIF Challenges submission was a little outside of my normal, but with a challenge around MAD FOR PLAID, how could I say no. You know this girl loves her plaid. My heros don't wear capes, they wear plaid. 😉 #SPNFamilyForever

I then had the personal challenge of so many plaid ideas, where do I start! I asked my fellow team members to throw me some of their fav stamp sets to work with and Turtle from Back on Your Feet stamp set. This spoke to me as I know someone going through a rough time right now and the vision for the card came to be.

Using the #TGIFC301 Plaid Mad designer card as inspiration I went searching for some plaid paper to work with my Turtle and found this little beauty on the back on the Berry Delightful Designer Series Paper. The Berry Delightful DSP is part of one of the awesome Sale-A-Bration free product promotion items and even comes with a free Berry Blessing stamp set).

For a gender neutral design I thought I'd stick with the green, brown and white theme that worked so well with the DSP and the turtle. I love creating gender neutral cards.

To colour the turtle I used Granny Apple Green with a hint of Shaded Spruce (as Garden Green doesn't have it's own Blends yet) and the shell was Crumb Cake and Soft Suede Blends. Blending takes a little practice but gives so much more depth over straight colouring in.

For the Soft Suede square I added texture by embossing with the Bricks & Mortar Embossing Folder.

I added a little Linen Tread and my good old Dimensionals to snazzy it up.

To do the Granny Apple strip I used Granny Apple ink on a Blending brush over the top of the leaf design Mask from the Basic Pattern Decorative Masks. It was so simple but created a quite striking pattern cardstock that perfectly matched.

I went for the top fold style and decorated the inside with an multi layer insert with the leaf stenciled pattern and some soft brushing with the Granny Apple ink with the blending brush, giving off a more professional look. A pre-stamped sentiment inside to complete the card.

The Wonderful As You stamp set was perfect for this card. I love that it isn't exactly about grief or ill psychical health and can be used in so many other difficult times to show support. The Wonderful As You stamp set is available now in the new Jan-June Mini Catalogue.
